Put an AI Voice Agent on Your Website

Copy this, paste it into Claude Code, and it sets everything up.

Voice agent setup prompt

Set up an AI voice agent on my website using Vapi. Do everything you can yourself and only stop when you need something from me, one thing at a time. I'm not technical, so keep it simple. 1. Find my website's code on this computer (ask me where it is if you can't find it) and work out what it's built with. 2. If I don't have a Vapi account yet, send me to vapi.ai to sign up and add a payment card, then wait for me. 3. Create a .env.local file in my website folder with VAPI_PRIVATE_KEY= and VAPI_PUBLIC_KEY= and make sure it's in .gitignore. Tell me where to find both keys in the Vapi dashboard and ask me to paste them into that file myself. Never ask me to paste keys into this chat. 4. Read my website to learn about the business: services, prices, opening hours, location and contact details. Then ask me anything important you couldn't find, in one short message. 5. Check the current Vapi docs at docs.vapi.ai before writing any code. Then use the Vapi API with my private key to create an assistant with the latest Claude Haiku model Vapi supports, a natural voice, a friendly first message, and a system prompt built from my business details. It must say it's an AI assistant at the start of every call, keep answers short, never make up prices or facts, and take a name and phone number when it can't help. 6. Add Vapi's official web widget to my website so visitors can talk to the agent from a button on every page. Only the public key and assistant ID go in the website. The private key must never go in website code. 7. If Vapi lets you restrict the public key to my website's domain, do that. 8. Test it: check the assistant exists and the site builds without errors, then tell me how to try a call myself. 9. Finish with a short summary of what you set up, roughly what it costs per minute, and how to change what the agent says later.

Needs a Vapi account with a card added. Calls cost roughly 7 to 10p a minute, and Vapi gives $5 free credit to try it.
